East Thuringia's locational advantage
The towns of Altenburg, Gera and Jena have a major economic advantage in terms of location, in the local region as well as along the A4 motorway and the Central German railway. They are an important element of the developing metropolitan region in the central German economic area.
Hermsdorfer Kreuz motorway junction and the Altenburg-Nobitz and Jena-Schöngleina airports are signs of dynamism and flexibility. Another valuable locational advantage is the university, the University of Applied Sciences and the Beutenberg campus in Jena, excellent sites of industry-related research, as well as Gera vocational academy. Thanks to structural changes and companies moving into the area, business skills clusters have developed, particularly in the fields of optoelectronics, medicine, biotechnology, the automobile component supply industry, plastics technology and mechanical engineering. New companies receive a warm welcome here.
